Leather has many uses for our industry today. It has invaded the shoe industry for a long time and most of the durable and expensive ones are made purely out of this. It is not a wonder why they can become very expensive because primarily they are durable and they last a long time. With the right engineering, they can be very comfortable to wear. Other uses would fall mainly in the making of quality accessories. You use these items in your daily activities like your bags, gloves, wallets and belts. They have been part of our lives and have greatly contributed in making people aesthetically well rounded.
Contributions of the uses of leather in our society have not only made humans more attractive or appealing. It uses has expanded in making the lives of bikers easier for travel. For people who ride a two-wheel vehicle, it is difficult to manage their luggage because motorcycles do not have compartments where you can store your stuff. However, due to the processing of this material for bags, motorcycle enthusiasts are greatly happy because accessories for bikes have been introduced in the market. The evolution of leather saddlebags have made riding easy because you can now have the liberty of driving your bike without having your things to get in the way.
The main challenge in here is how you take care of this precious item (especially when they cost hundreds of dollars). As much as you take care of your ride, you also need to do the same for your accessories. Since leather is a special material, take these simple tips on how to clean these great looking accessories.
1. If you travel long-distance, it is expected that you will be getting dirt and dust on your leather. Before you use any kind of cleaner, try removing first large specs that got stuck on the surface by scraping it. Do not use sharp metals in doing this as it can scratch the surface.
2. If you want to remove the residues on the surface, use a damp cloth. Never hose it down or soak it. You can use mild soaps but never use bleach. They can destroy the outer protection of the leather and destroy its natural color. Once dry you try to remove the nasty stains through leather creams and conditioners that are available in the market. All you have to do is to qualify the solution and read the guide set by manufacturer.
3. If you must brush the surface, you can but do it slowly. It can be good for suede or materials that have micro fibers. But for those that have smooth surface, wiping them is advisable.
4. You also have to avoid using chemicals on your leather saddlebags. If you must choose them wisely but do not overuse them. Remember they have undergone several processes that involve different chemicals too. Thus putting some would create a chemical cocktail that could destroy the outer protection of the material.
5. If it is soaked, do not use extreme high heat. If you do this, more than often, it can change the ph level of the material and in turn, it could result to a red rot. Instead, have them air-dried naturally
